Strategies to Support Active and Collaborative Learning

November 18, 10:00am-12:00pm

In this workshop we will explore strategies to enhance students’ engagement, promote dialogue, and encourage deep learning. We will discuss the rationale for active and collaborative learning, and examine methods for design and implementation in different types of courses. During the workshop, you will experience a range of new strategies through demonstrations and peer sharing, and develop a plan to incorporate selected strategies into your courses.

How Academics Can Use Social Media to Gain a Competitive Edge

Social media is a powerful tool for academics to communicate their thought leadership, increase awareness of their research and collaborate with peers. Attend this session with social media strategist Lina Duque, MBA, and learn how to use social media effectively to create a strong and targeted online presence. Whether you’re a beginner or savvy user, you will walk away with practical tips you can implement today. 




Supervisory Alliance in Graduate Supervision

November 30, 1:00-3:00pm

What is a supervisory alliance? The session will introduce a framework to discuss this relationship between supervisor and supervisee in terms of the Bond, Goals, and Tasks. The presentation and discussion will provide you with suggestions, ideas and a model to enable you to collaborate more successfully with your graduate students. Open only to Arts and Education.




November 30, 1:00-3:00pm

Commercialization, intellectual property, and public-private partnerships within research will be explored during this interactive workshop. An overview will be given of the current situation and context within Quebec and Canada, as well as their potential future direction.

Course Evaluations Open for Fall 2016

Students may complete their Course Evaluations from now until December 22 (December 6 for units following the condensed period). Strategies to encourage student participation include:

  • Communicating the value of course evaluations;
  • Making announcements and reminding your students; and
  • Allowing students time in class to complete their course evaluations.

myCourses Tip: Tracking student progress

The Class (User) Progress tool in myCourses provides you with a quick snapshot of student performance in your class. The performance indicators on your dashboard, such as the number of Content items that your students have viewed and achievement on Assignments submitted through myCourses, can be customized. Click on a student’s name to drill-down and view their individual progress in the class.
