Your news at the heart of your Faculty of Dentistry / Issue 15 / October 10, 2013

A message from Dean Allison

Dear colleagues,

After nearly a year of planning and organizing, the official announcement of our new facility is only one week away. As you know, the Faculty is suspending all its operations, cancelling classes and activities the morning of October 18th to celebrate together this important moment. I want to remind you that you must RSVP in order to attend and not come into work.
I hope that all students and all staff will come to this event, which will include the premiere of a special video about the Faculty, speeches by the Principal and Minister of Higher Education among others as well as the opportunity to walk through a small part of the space being renovated at 2001 McGill College.

To help us in organising this event, we really need everyone to RSVP so we have a good idea of the number of people attending. So, with apologies to those who have already responded, can those who have not yet done so please send your RSVP.

Thanks and see you there!

Dean Allison

New Support Staff

Dear colleagues,

As I said in a message a few weeks ago, we recently advertised for positions to support teaching work at the faculty.  I am very pleased to announce that two new members of staff started on Monday, October 7th.  Shelly Germann will be working with Nila, Geni, Susan and Romantha up at the MGH to support teaching in the DMD program there, and Emil Briones will be based at the SADB supporting DMD teaching among staff on campus.

Please note that we are also aware of the need for teaching support for the increasing number of graduate level courses being run through the Faculty and we will be writing shortly to clarify how this support will be assigned.

Let me take this opportunity to welcome Shelly and Emil.  We look forward very much to working with them.

Collaboration Corner

Dear students,

I would like to request you to participate in a research study titled "The perceptions of dental students about the HPV related Oro-pharyngeal cancer." The study requires interviews with 3rd year and 4th year DMD students, and will take a maximum of 30 minutes of your time, at a location convenient to you. You will be compensated by a tea/coffee and snacks. The study has been granted ethics approval by the IRB at McGill.

I sincerely hope you would participate in the study and look forward to hearing from you. You can contact me by email.

Kind regards,

Nida Amir
