Just in time for summer, the Library's refurbished courtyard is open! Step outside to read, connect to our Wi-Fi, work on a project with a colleague or have a cup of coffee with a friend in our newest outdoor space. Summer Reading Club 2015
Registration begins June 6 in the Library or at the Library tent at Community Day — remember to pick up your kit and schedule of events when you register.



There are three clubs to choose from:

Read-To-Me Club |
Pre-Readers

Sharing books and visiting the Library regularly are two valuable gifts you can give your child. Join a club designed for parents with children who cannot yet read independently. Keep a record of the reading and fun literacy challenges you have done together in a special booklet and drop-in for weekly stickers, stamps and reading suggestions.

Summer Reading Club |
Grades K – 7

Get ready for a summer of fun! Members will receive a package including a Reading Record, Bookmark, Challenge Sheet, and Calendar of Events. Report your readings and learning challenges, and attend special programs for a chance to win fabulous prizes. A great way to spend your holidays! Check out this year’s theme.

Teen Reading Club |
Grades 7 – 12

Designed especially for teen readers, this club offers a prize for every third book read.

Summer Drop-in Book Buddies | Ages 6 – 12
Fridays, July 10, 17, 24 and 31, 11:30 a.m., Storyhouse

Play literacy games and practice your reading skills with teen volunteers. Kids must be school-aged and able to read some English on their own in order to register.

Build It | The Exciting World of 3D Printing | Ages 9+

Do you like to build, make, construct and imagine? Join tech expert John Biehler as he talks about all the amazing things people can create using 3D printers in this large group presentation. Online registration.

Try It! Hands-On 3D Printing | Ages 9 – 13

Summer Movie Matinee – Paddington Bear | All Ages

A young bear travels to London in search of a home and meets a kind family who offers him a temporary haven.

Discover new books, share your favourites and enjoy fun activities in this program led by teen volunteers. Online registration begins Monday, July 13.

Build a Robot with the Raspberry Pi! | Ages 9 – 13
Thursday, August 13, 2:30 p.m., Computer Training Room

Program your own light-up robot and try out some basic computer programming in this more advanced Raspberry Pi Class. Registrants must have taken a previous Raspberry Pi class through the Library or have previous experience with Scratch to participate. Online registration opens at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 13. Please register each child separately.

Our beloved Mr. and Mrs. Plumtree have returned to us after an extended stay at the spa for wooden people. They're waiting to greet you at the main entrance, and they're looking good. Welcome home Plumtrees!

Patio Sale – On the first sunny Monday in July, don't miss the Friends' annual Patio Sale from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. See you on the patio for great bargains on CDs, DVDs and vinyl.  

Shred it and Forget it – Bring all your personal paper to the Friends' first annual Shred It and Forget It, Saturday, July 25, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Library West Parking Lot. Minimum $5 donation.
