Students of every age and every reading level—from kindergarten to high school—are invited to sign-up for a Summer Reading Club program. Each club is specially tailored to a specific age range and offers prizes and incentives to registrants who keep reading over the entire summer. Comedy Writing Workshop with Dan Bar-El | 11 – 13Y
July 7, 10:30 a.m., Youth Department

A lively, fun hour-and a-half of learning how to think and write “funnier”. Participants will cover the basic rules of comedy, how to brainstorm ideas and formulate a joke, how language breaks down as a tool and serves humour, the importance of lateral thinking and ways to change your perspective of the world around you. Don’t forget to bring a pencil and notebook. Registration is required.

Book Buddies | 6 – 12Y
Saturdays, August 9, 16, 23 and 30, 10:30 a.m., Storyhouse

Children will play literacy games and practice their reading skills with teen volunteers during this one hour program. Kids must be school-aged and able to read some English on their own in order to register for the program. Registration is required and begins Monday, July 28

Movie Matinee – Lego Movie | All Ages

An ordinary Lego construction worker, thought to be the prophesied ‘special’, is recruited to join a quest to stop an evil tyrant from gluing the Lego universe into eternal stasis. Time: 101 minutes, BC Film Classification Rating: General. Drop-in, but space is limited.

For the second year in a row, we have won two Best of Show Awards in the annual American Library Association’s PR Xchange competition. Our Website Takeaways won in the category of Patron Orientation and our Music Playlists tied for the award of Materials Promoting Collections. Congratulations to our creative staff!
