What's New

We were a small, but enthusiastic group at the August partner meeting, but we were game for some fun and exercise on the challenge course at Laurentian University Outdoor Centre! Thanks to everyone who came out for the morning, and a big thank you to our host, Jean Benoit at the Centre.

Get Ready for Spooktacular Fun!

Sudbury Tourism has launched our Halloween page. Find our featured Halloween destinations and other family fun activities this fall by visiting

Interested in Sudbury Pins for your promotional uses?

Tourism supports events taking place in Sudbury, that have out of town visitation and profile, by way of the Tourism Event Support Program. This support ranges from promotional items/brochures, such as our Sudbury pins and Visitor Guides, to financial contributions.

Recently we have had inquiries to acquire pins for promotional uses by partners and external stakeholders. With the limited quantity we currently have, we are interested in gauging interest among partners to determine the size and timing of the next order. The pins would be available for the cost of $45/bag of 100 plus HST.

Please let us know by Friday, September 29th if you are interested. Order and delivery dates will be confirmed once interest is determined.

Training Opportunity

As part of Tourism Staff's efforts to increase our outreach and encourage our community ambassadors (eg. front-line service workers/stakeholders) to promote the Visitor Guide and the best of what Sudbury has to offer, a new training session was presented on August 31st. Dana, Paul and Meredith presented to our friends at the three post secondary education institutions, specifically to their recruitment officers.

It was a positive way to bring all the great things you, our partners, do to provide awesome experiences for both residents and visitors to help them sell our city to new students, both nationally and internationally. We will be continuing our work with the post secondary institutions and welcome questions or ideas on how to get involved.

If you see an opportunity for us to provide a training or update session to your staff on what Sudbury Tourism provides, and the new offerings in the community, please let us know!

Net Promoter Score

While at events this year, the students surveyed people to track our Net Promoter Score. The Net Promoter Score is a widely used resource to evaluate customer experience and loyalty. In our case it is tracking our progress towards being one of the top tourism destinations. We ask people at events, "On a scale from 0-10, how likely are you to recommend Sudbury as a destination to a family or friend?" Based on the surveys done to date we are currently scoring 69. The closer the number is to 100 the better! This score is based on the results that show 51% of respondents are promoters (scored 9 or 10), 34% of respondents are passive (scored 7 or 8) and 13% of respondents are detractors (scored 6 or below). Of the people surveyed, 90% were residents and 10% were visitors. If you have questions on the value of the Net Promoter Score or surveying done by Sudbury Tourism, contact Dana!

Meetings, Conventions & Sports

2017/2018 School Year

Sudbury Tourism staff have been involved with Laurentian University, Cambrian College and Collège Boréal in welcoming and introducing this year's international and local students to the community with several bus tours as well as handing out personal invitations for the Mayor’s Student Reception scheduled on September 21st at Science North. There was also a customer service training and information session held for student Recruiters.

2021 Canada Summer Games Debrief

Members of the local bid committee were given the opportunity to meet with Canada Games Council officials for a detailed debriefing of the Greater Sudbury bid.  It was stated that the four (4) bidding communities submitted bids that would have been amongst the top 10 ever received for a Canada Games.  There were many strengths in our bid such as watersports, Northern Water Sports Centre, LU Campus modernization, sustainability and Indigenous connection followed by weaknesses of some dated facilities particularly for baseball and soccer, lack of accessible rooms, too much reliance on funding, as well as the significant opposition that was captured in the media.  There were many lessons learned and certainly we are now in a better position to bid more and win more than before the process.   It put Greater Sudbury on the national stage and as the Canada Games Officials stated “you have lots to brag about!”

2018 CanSPEP Conference

Winning the 2018 CanSPEP conference in partnership with the Radisson Hotel Sudbury provided staff the opportunity to attend this years’ conference in PEI.  This put Sudbury Tourism in the same space, face to face with over 100 professional meeting planners for three (3) days that included podium time and playing a promotional video at the gala dinner and sponsorship of the hospitality suite.  Many connections were made and site tours for the 2018 conference will occur in Sudbury on September 25th and 26th.

Bid Evaluations

There have been many bids evaluated and the following evaluations are in progress including:

  • 2018 Stihl Timbersports
  • 2019 & 2020 Canadian University/College  Badminton Championship
  • 2021 Ontario 55+ Winter Games, and an
  • International Blind Ice Hockey demo.
