Tourism Action Plan

The new Tourism Benchmarking Team met on October 24th to review the process for developing a new Tourism Action Plan for Greater Sudbury that will advance the goals outlined in From the Ground Up. The team includes about 20 stakeholders from various sectors related to tourism, with participation by Greater Sudbury Development Corporation (GSDC) board members, Tourism Excellence North (TEN) and Northeastern Ontario Tourism.

The Benchmarking team is using the Community Tourism Assessment Index tools developed through the TEN program. This process will provide a framework for analysis of tourism assets, leadership and planning along with economic, environmental and social attributes that will help to establish a baseline of results indicating Greater Sudbury's readiness and capacity to support ongoing tourism development. Each action resulting from this assessment will address the need to strengthen the destination and/or build community support and engagement, and each will identify key performance indicators for ongoing measurement. The Tourism Action Plan will be implemented by Tourism staff, relevant partners and community stakeholders over the next three years. The Community Tourism Assessment Index will be used annually to measure progress and gauge success as the plan is implemented.

Save the Date!

The draft Tourism Action Plan will be presented for review in workshop format at the

2017 Tourism Forum, being held on Wednesday, November 29th, 2017.

Group Tour

OMCA – Ontario Motor Coach Association

Sudbury Tourism staff attended OMCA earlier this month. OMCA is one of the largest travel and tourism-related associations in Canada, and the hosts its annual Marketplace in order to provide promotional and networking opportunities for Group Tour and private sector bus operators, inter-city bus lines, charter and coach tour companies in Ontario.

This marketplace provides us with an excellent opportunity to leverage the Sudbury Tourism Partnership resources to expose Greater Sudbury and its tourism offerings and experiences to a national and international audience. Each group tour operator, in turn, has potential to reach thousands of prospective travelers and consumers interested in a visit to Greater Sudbury.
