Industry & Destination Development

Tourism staff were invited by the Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership Corporation (OTMPC) to attend a Group of Seven symposium and workshop on February 10th in Toronto, which brought together stakeholders from across the province to lay the ground work "to position Ontario as Canada’s key tourism destination for experiencing the Group of Seven’s legacy, landscapes and collections". The Art Gallery of Sudbury was also invited to attend. Participants will now work to identify and build opportunities and partnerships to develop tourism experiences focused on the Group of Seven’s history within the province.

The provincial government announced it will be widening another 14 kilometers of Highway 69 from north of Highway 607 to north of Highway 522 at a cost of $173 million. The project will take five years to complete and will begin in the spring. This will leave only 68 kilometers to be four laned which is projected to be completed by 2021.
