Engage your Students in Class with Online Polling

Are you interested in using Polling @ McGill to engage your students in class? This tool allows instructors to ask their students questions in class, who respond using their personal phone, tablet, or laptop. In this workshop, you will learn about different strategies to engage your students using polling, with a focus on how to design effective polling questions.

myCourses Tip: Exporting Grades from myCourses to Minerva

You can now export your students’ final grades from myCourses directly to Minerva. This involves preparing your grades in the Grades tool using a simple three-step process to ensure a quick and successful export. It is important to note that you must enter J and K grades directly in Minerva. If you prefer, you can still manually export your final grades from myCourses.

The McGill Library is your go-to destination for health, wellness, enlightenment, and enjoyment! McGill students, faculty and staff have access to millions of print items found in our catalogue as well as online resources, recordings, games, gadgets, and more. The Library also offers health and wellness spaces for users who want to keep active while working. 

 

Adding Readings to myCourses

The Library can help you make course readings available to your students at no cost with myCourses. It’s easy to link to the Library’s millions of articles and ebooks, or to scan and upload books and articles directly to myCourses. Feedback Strategies: Engaging Students in Dialogue

Providing feedback to undergraduate students on their writing assignments can be a complex, time-consuming and thankless task. This workshop focuses on feedback strategies for essays and research (term) papers that engage students with feedback and encourage them to take greater responsibility for their learning before, during, and after assignments.

Encourage your Students to Complete their Mercury Course Evaluations

Students have until December 23 (December 7 for units following the condensed period) to complete their course evaluations. Strategies to encourage student participation include:

  • Providing concrete examples of how you have used previous student feedback;
  • Showing this video in class on why students should complete their course evaluations;
  • Allowing students time in class to complete their course evaluations on their laptops.

Early Alert

Instructors sometimes notice a student who exhibits unexpected behaviours, such as frequent and unexplained absences, deteriorating academic performance, or uncharacteristic expressions of emotion. While some instructors reach out directly to help students, an alternative is to click on the “Early Alert” widget in myCourses.
