The research (term) paper is a core assignment at McGill, allowing students to reflect on meaningful questions and develop their own scholarly voices. In this workshop, we will explore how to design assignments that engage students and encourage them to develop their critical thinking skills.

Disability, Access, and Universal Design

February 17, 9:30am-12:00pm

This workshop will provide an overview of the fast changing notions of disability, impairment and access. A series of interactive tasks structured around recent statistics concerning disability on campus will lead the participants to re-examine certain preconceptions about the nature of disabilities in higher education, the models for services and best designs for universal access.

Prepping for your Lit Review: Organizing, Summarizing, and Critiquing Studies

Are your students just summarizing in a literature review? Do they feel overwhelmed by the amount of papers they found? Students can attend this workshop to learn how to efficiently keep track of authors’ relevant points, and critically comment on the literature so that their own voices shine through when writing their reviews.

Mid-Course Evaluations

Want to receive valuable feedback from your students during the term while it is still possible to make adjustments? Effective strategies include administering an online survey through myCourses, using Polling @ McGill, and having an in-class student-led forum.

 

Add Questions to your Course Evaluation

Instructors may add up to three questions to their course evaluation questionnaire. This is an opportunity to receive feedback specific to the course context or on particular areas of focus, such as new teaching strategies. Please submit your questions by March 10.

myCourses Tip: Using the Surveys Tool to Request Student Feedback

You can create Surveys in myCourses to obtain feedback from your students on any topic, such as course content, teaching strategies, and guest speakers. Using Surveys in myCourses allows you to collect data in the course space and allows you to maintain student anonymity. With access to multiple question formats, such as Likert-scale and branching questions, you have several options for collecting feedback.

CRKN Journal Usage Survey

McGill Library is inviting you to participate in a national survey of faculty from 23 Canadian universities on their usage of electronic resources. The survey builds on the work of Dr. Vincent Larivière at the Université de Montréal, and is being coordinated by the Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN). The survey, which asks you to identify the journals you and your colleagues deem to be essential to your research and teaching activities, contains five questions and should take less than 15 minutes to complete.
