Bumps in the Road in Graduate Supervision: A conflict resolution discussion

The supervisory experience can present professors with many challenges including conflict and at times, ineffective resolution of such conflict.This workshop is designed to help supervisors build communication with supervisees and learn how to effectively prevent and manage conflict in their relationships.

What the research says ...

While most courses involve outside-of-class reading assignments, instructors may notice students coming to class demonstrating various levels of preparation or familiarity with those readings. There are a number of approaches that instructors can use to address this. In this post, Dr. Huang summarizes four ways to help increase students’ engagement with their reading.

Course Evaluation Results for Fall 2016

Course Evaluation results for the Fall semester are available in Mercury after grades are submitted and approved. Guidelines for Interpretation are available, including a comments analysis sheet and sample tables for reporting results.

 

New Mercury Features

A number of enhancements have been made to the Mercury Course Evaluation system. These include improvements to the display of results and the inclusion of standard deviations in reports.

myCourses Tip: Using Text Boxes 

Within myCourses, you can package links, videos and text together around a specific topic using the Text Box functionality. With the Text Box you can write descriptions for content and activities, write announcements and events, create HTML files, and more. Its formatting functionality, similar to Word, allows you to "Insert Stuff" such as embedded videos and images, as well as documents and HTML code. 
 

How to add readings to myCourses

The Library can help you make course readings available to your students at no cost with myCourses. It’s easy to link to the Library’s millions of articles and ebooks or to scan and upload chapters and articles directly to myCourses. 

Polling @ McGill: Sign up for the Winter semester

Instructors interested in using Polling @ McGill for the Winter semester must request licenses for their courses; please see the “Getting Started for Instructors” section of the Polling @ McGill website. This system, available as of the Fall 2016 semester at no charge to students and instructors, allows students to respond to questions from a personal device (smartphone, tablet, or laptop). As a reminder, physical clickers are no longer supported for in-class use.
